My Students

My students come from a low-income/high poverty school district. Not only do the students need support, but their amazing families do as well. As a special education teacher, my students with autism are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. They don't always receive the little push they need to strive for the best. I set high standards for them, but I do not demand that they bring me the moon...I simply encourage them to reach for the stars.

My Project

This blanket will support students' sensory needs to recieve the input that they are not able to recieve otherwise. With the proper internal states, they will be able to properly attend to tasks and learn how to better regulate their needs to succeed as best as they can. Many students with special needs do not know why they feel as they do, why they are unable to focus and what they need to "fix" what is "wrong". This will be a tool for them to use if they need it. Another option, another tool to help them sometimes simply just feel better. Mentally and emotionally.
