My Students

My students are unique in their own way. Each of them bring their own talent and strength to the classroom environment. Our school is predominantly African Americans students with a few Hispanic and Asian populations and 1% white. Most of these students are low leveled students.

Their ability to read and write are extremely poor and weak.

Regardless of their insufficiency they have a spirit to learn which makes my job easier. With my guidance and high expectation, I know they can learn.

My Project

As a title one school, our students do not always have access to basic items. As one notebook finishes or a pen or pencil is absent from their tiny hands, it's a signed that they have to wait because it's not a prosperity right now. Often time, they will either write on a paper given by another peer or don't participate in the activity given which will impact their learning. Having the notebooks, pens and pencils will put a smile on their faces to know that their needs can be attended to even at school.

Additionally, many of them have low skills in science which is built as an additional support during our after school program.

Having snacks for them will motivate them to attend and persist in completing task. With the white board and post its students can write how they feel about the task or peer or self assess themselves and others in achieving one goal. Having a voice in their learning through writing and making it visible will motivate and help them to become active participants in their own learning process.
