My Project

My scholars are a creative and innovative group. My goal is to help them realize their potential by cultivating academic excellence and recognizing their strengths. While there have been many new challenges this school year as we navigate new ways of learning since the COVID-19 pandemic, my scholars are meeting these challenges with resilience, flexibility, and perseverance.

We are always considering ways to make our small-group reading instruction more approachable, relevant, culturally diverse, and fun while meeting the needs of individual students and helping them become fluent, independent, confident readers.

Most of my instruction is held in small groups of no more than 8 kids at a time. This allows me to target the individual needs of each scholar. With this project, I am requesting reams of copy paper (printer paper) to help create materials such as digraph/ trigraph/ blends flashcards, take-home leveled readers, fluency passages, spelling and decoding games, and other resources based on student needs. Every scholar is different and therefore no small group runs exactly like another!

I am also hoping to use the lined paper (loose-leaf paper) to help increase student engagement and strengthen writing skills. We will practice with activities such as 'Write the Room,' where younger scholars walk around the room and write the words they see to encourage understanding of environmental print and strengthen sight reading skills.
