My Students

In light of recent tragic events, my students bring about hope for a better future. While they hail from all over the globe, speak a multitude of different languages, and come from a wide array of economic situations, they work together in unity. Through playing in a band together, they learn the values of teamwork, tolerance, understanding, and loyalty. We see our wonderful diversity as an asset and a strength. I can only hope that they can carry this notion of setting aside differences to achieve unity in the future.

My students are energetic, determined, and love to share their musical gifts with the school and the local community.

They are truly a joy to behold.

My Project

On March 13, 2020 I closed the door to our room not knowing that 18 months would pass before the walls would hear music again! Over the past two months music has once began to fill the basement of our school. Nearly 200 students are starting to play instruments and they are making incredible progress. One of the struggles of teaching band with COVID restrictions is that the musician masks cause the students to break more reeds. The new reeds will allow students to play on a reed that is not chipped. The mouthpiece cushions will help guide mouthpiece placement - something that is challenging to do behind a mask. The valve oil is important to keep our instruments in working order. Many of our brass instruments have sluggish valves due to having not been played since March of 2020. The gong mallet and new tambourine will help reinvigorate our aging percussion inventory. Please consider supporting my students as we navigate our new normal!
