My students need a classroom which looks like 2018. Flexible seating stools increase engagement and allow for reconfiguring the learning space as needed. The Makey Makey allows an opportunity to increase creativity, critical thinking and communication.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
Our school is a Title I campus which means it is a school of high poverty. Many of our parents work multiple jobs to make ends meet. It is a neighborhood school and most students walk to school. 80% of my students are English Language Learners who struggle with reading and math.
Classrooms which are student-centered are successful.
My goal is to increase engagement in a student-centered classroom to help set up my students for success. I incorporate a variety of learning strategies, projects and options to help met students where they are and achieve their goals.
My Project
We are reimagining the classroom. First we are looking to add flexible seating requesting stools. This allows for increased engagement as well as reconfiguring the learning space as needed for different learning opportunities, such as small group, presentations, etc. The Makey Makey introduces my students to coding and computational thinking. Computer Science is one of the fastest growing career paths and is like learning a foreign language. Coding lets students become creators of content through creativity, collaboration, critical thinking and communication. Coding with Makey Makey will also help my students become better problem-solvers.
