I have shifted from school counseling to PSD's Mental Health Team and am creating regulating spaces at the elementary and high school buildings I now support as a mental health specialist. Students at all levels are often dysregulated and in need of coping skills to manage anxiety, depression or other mental health issues in healthy ways that lead to resilience and allow them to thrive.
Psychoeducation around the stress response in the brain, tools for managing anxiety and depression and play therapy interventions are research-based methods to address trauma and mental health and build resilience and coping skills in all the age levels I work with.
These materials will build my tool box of intervention strategies and help me be more effective in supporting students. I will create regulating spaces in the 3 school I serve and will use these tools in small counseling groups and individual work with students.
