The student's I work with are all on Individualized Educational Plans. The majority of the students are diagnosed with various disorders. Many are autistic, have social emotional needs, and are in need of explicit teaching in how to regulate their emotions.
My student's are not yet intrinsically motivated, so setting up reinforcement contingencies (in the form of legos, a fan FAVORITE) for demonstrating the use of regulation strategies instead of negative behavior is well help teach and reinforce these important life skills.
As I've built rapport with my students this year, I have found that many of them are highly interested in building legos. Not only are they willing to work for "lego time" in school, they will be inadvertently working on social skills during "Lego Club" time!
