This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

I am a special education teacher working with students who have severe emotional and behavioral disabilities. I love working my students and providing them learning experiences that will motivate and encourage them to excel both academically and behaviorally. All of my students have a difficult time with regulating their emotions and behaviors both in and out of the classroom. But it is my educational motto that "all children can and want to learn". That is my daily why!

The items I have chosen will all be used by the students to assist them in learning to regulate their emotions and behaviors.

I have chosen a sensory tent for those times when a student just needs to be alone and regroup. We need 2 bean bags for students to sit in and will use some of the sensory toys to help students regulate their emotions. Building kits, STEM toys, and kinetic sand to assist when students are either overstimulated or under-stimulated. A rolling cart to keep the items organized, and several other sensory supports.

It is my goal to provide my students with a classroom environment that is calming, which allows students to work within their own abilities. They will consistently learn the skills and strategies needed in order for them to learn how to self regulate. This decreases classroom disruptions, physical altercations and teaches them social and emotional strategies. Our ultimate goal is to provide our students with strategies, skills and information needed so that they can grow both academically and behaviorally. Students will begin to self-regulate which will minimize their behaviorally challenges and prevent them from impeding on their learning environment.

All students deserve to have a classroom that meets their overall needs, I am asking that you assist me in creating the room my students need to soar this school year!
