My Students

Do you remember what it was like to be new at school? Have you ever gone to school and not understood what anyone was saying? My students have. They are refugees from around the world.

I teach 30 dynamic refugee students.

They come from refugee camps from around the world. They speak 9 different languages and are from 11 different countries. Our school is a title 1 school and most of my student come from low socio-economic homes. They all have an amazing and unique background to share with the school.

My Project

My students would like to create a series of bulletin boards that celebrate their unique history and different perspectives with the whole school. We are asking for bulletin board paper and boarder. We are also asking for a map of the world and flag pins so that each student can mark where they are from. Lastly, we are asking for flags from the countries that my students are from. The bulletin board will also have pictures of the children and list all the languages they speak. My students will then write a short history about themselves and choose one memorable moment from their country to write about. This display will allow refugee children to really celebrate where they are from instead of being embarrassed that they can't or don't speak English well. It will also help improve the school climate of acceptance.

Students should celebrate and display their heritage.

Most students here are interested in the culture of other students, but they don't get a chance to really see or read about it. Please help us share our wonderful differences with the whole student body!
