This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In a low-income and food insecure school district, providing essential supplies and resources becomes crucial for the overall well-being and academic success of students. With limited access to resources at home, students may not have items such as tissues and wipes readily available, making it even more important for schools to provide them. Moreover, by teaching students about proper hygiene practices and providing them with the necessary supplies, we empower them with knowledge and skills that will benefit their health and well-being beyond their time in school.

Students cannot learn without their most basic needs met, including access to adequate nutrition and clean water.

Hunger can have severe consequences on a child's physical and cognitive development as well as their ability to concentrate and learn in school. Providing snacks at school helps ensure that students have the energy and focus necessary for learning. Furthermore, with reusable water bottles and easy filtration, students will have more consistent hydration during all hours of the day.

Emotional regulation games are essential tools for promoting emotional well-being and resilience in students. Children in low-income and food insecure school districts may face additional stressors and emotional challenges due to their circumstances. These games provide a structured and engaging way for students to learn emotional regulation skills, such as identifying and managing their identifying and managing their feelings, coping with stress, and building positive relationships. By incorporating these games into the curriculum, we empower students to develop healthy emotional coping mechanisms which can positively impact their academic performance and social interactions.

By addressing hygiene, nutrition, and emotional wellness, I can help meet the most essential needs of students which will allow me to foster a more equitable and inclusive learning environment where students are more equipped for a successful school day.
