Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach special education at a Title I school and all of my students have special needs. Most of my students have deficits in multiple subject areas. They love to come to school and are eager to learn even more since being back on campus. A lot of my students don't have support from home when it comes to academics. I do my best to try and give them the support they need and try to encourage them to keep showing great effort even though they may be behind the other students in their classes.

COVID has impacted their learning in numerous ways over the past year and a half.

Since I teach in a lower income area, not all of the students had access to constant and strong internet. That being said, they weren't always able to get on and attend classes which added to their deficits in multiple subjects. Some students weren't able to charge their Chromebooks due to moving around a lot or having to travel with their parents and not attend school. Since my students are elementary level, a lot of what they do is not up to them but their parents.

My Project

In the resource classroom, students are all working on individual goals based on their deficits. The materials I chose will allow them to sit comfortably (especially those who fidget a lot). There are books with characters who look like my students and share the same cultures as them. My students have expressed that they want to be able to write better since they weren't able to technically write last year.

These products will help to fill those deficits that all my students have.

The students will have access to a little more with this project and hopefully start progressing more now that they are back on campus.
