My Students

Middle school students are such an exciting group of mixed interests, abilities, and goals. Some of my students are learning academics while some of their classmates are learning functional skills. Based on the population of students at our school, we have a variety of socioeconomic barriers that come with multiple challenges.

Our school builds a partnership based on what we have in common, how we use our differences to our advantage, and our shared experiences while focusing on how to independently support mental health through the resources in our school community.

We are part of a One Hill community that celebrates inclusion and positive growth. Our school supports students in general education, special education, and inclusive classrooms. As our students make gains, they begin to get overwhelmed by the daily strains of instructional rigor and socioeconomic challenges. My school strives to help students build a capacity to support mental health and ways to cope with everyday challenges. The work we do in this school includes building relationships, supporting each other through various means, creating a positive culture that supports all school stakeholders, and preparing students to take care of their mental health in various settings.

My Project

The materials and supplies that I am requesting for my students already have a "home." In other words, I know exactly where everything will go. We just need your help in getting everything through our door! The rug will be placed in the middle of the classroom and used as a place for students to gather and socialize while taking a break from their daily learning. The dining set, couch, and coffee table will be placed around the rug in our social emotional learning/student union center for students to take a break from instructional time when they are feeling stressed.

The donations to this project will support my students' mental health while also providing a safe space to engage with their peers and adults.

By implementing the social emotional learning/student union center, students will understand the importance of taking a refresh break in a safe space to take care of their mental health when they are overwhelmed. We will use these materials to aide us in teaching students how to take care of their mental health in the school community. Students will focus on demonstrating healthy practices and behaviors that will maintain or improve the health of self and others, as well as, Investigate the impact of a variety of healthy practices and behaviors to maintain or improve personal, community, and environmental health. As the teacher, I have done extensive research and reading on social emotional learning and the need for a safe space in schools. I truly need your support to make this a reality. Thank you!
