My Project

I am requesting three different types of journals. The journals will be used for reading, writing, and math.

I love using journals in the classroom.

Students are taught to use them to reflect, add content, and reference the content.

My students participate in a 40-book challenge. Students are challenged to read books in different genres. They use the journals to keep track of the books they have read and to respond to the prompts in the stories. The writing journals are to add weekly writings about the different styles of writing: narrative, opinion, and informational. It keeps all of their writings in one place so they can watch their writing grow throughout the year. The math journals are used daily to add notes for quick reference and to do the daily guided practice.

Students are taught how to use all of these journals through teacher modeling. At the end of the year at Open House, students are proud to share their work with their parents.
