Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are wonderful, enthusiastic learners who are just beginning their educational journey. They are excited to learn and explore and I am excited to lay a strong foundation for future learning. Our school is brand new, so we need so much to help us get started. Being in a low income area presents some challenges, but I know we will rise above them and make all of our supporters proud! I hope you will consider supporting my fantastic class and I as we embark on this exciting new adventure.

My Project

When students are struggling with their emotions and feelings, they need a safe space to go to in order to prevent removals and suspensions that can lead to a chain of behaviors and consequences that is hard to stop. We want to prevent that by creating a reflection room that will be a safe space for students to go. We hope that by creating this room we are also nurturing our students social-emotional needs, which can at times be overlooked.

In this reflection room they will reflect on their anger, frustration, or sadness and explore ways to solve those problems while also hopefully preventing future ones.

This space will include relaxing elements such as star projections and large comfy pillows that will help students reset the tone for the day. The pillows will be used to create a comfy relaxing place for students to meditate or cool down with a good book. The laser twilight light feature will add additional comfort by giving students something calming and soothing. Not only will these features create a wonderful meditation space, but also a great yoga retreat. This is why I have included yoga cards in this request. The cards will serve as models for students to guide them into a beginning yoga practice. The final request is two pairs of silencing headphones that will be perfect for blocking out the excess auditory stimulation, and truly allow our students to even out their emotions.

I know that these items will create a welcome retreat that will give our students a place to reflect on how their day is going. By giving them a place to reflect we will hopefully be preventing potential outbursts and other difficulties that could negatively influence the course of our students educational career.
