My Project

I am seeking $365 in funding ($299.98 for 24 mirrors, $30 shipping, and $34.50 in third-party fees) to purchase a set of self-portrait mirrors for my elementary school art classroom. These mirrors will serve as an essential tool for lessons on portraiture, proportions, and how to draw the human face, helping students gain confidence in their drawing abilities and their understanding of personal identity.

As young Donovan artists embark on the exciting journey of creating self portraits, they need the right tools to explore not only their artistic skills but also their understanding of themselves and the world around them.

In our art lessons, students will use these mirrors to study their own features, focusing on the relationships between different parts of the face, the details of their expressions, and the features that make them unique. By drawing from life, students will develop a deeper appreciation for the technical aspects of art while also engaging in rich discussions about culture, identity, and the diversity of experiences within our community.

These mirrors will not only support our art curriculum but also foster self-awareness and empathy. As they work on their self-portraits, students will reflect on how they see themselves and how they want others to see them, opening doors for discussions about individuality, culture, and the importance of self-expression. The mirrors will also be used in future lessons that focus on how portraiture can tell stories about people and places.
