My Students

“There is no such thing as a child who hates to read; there are only children who have not found the right book.” As Frank Serafini said, the only obstacle standing in between a child and reading is finding the right book that speaks to them.

My students are absoutely amazing.

They experience unimaginable hardships each and every day; for some students, just making it to school is a celebration. While these students do experience hardships, they don't use these hardships as excuses. They do their homework, raise their hands, and try to make each day more successful than the one before. As a school, we do our very best to motivate our students and help them to become the best versions of themsevles. The trick, though, is finding the right balance between what students are expected to do in 7th grade and where their functional levels are - which for many students, at no fault to them, are 2-3 grade levels behind. Our goal is that by the time students leave us and go to high school, each and every single student is reading at grade level.

My Project

My students read each and every day. Besides the nightly assignment of reading 30 minutes, students are also expected to read during morning homeroom, afternoon homeroom, and a strategic reading period. My students are fulfilling these rigorouse expectations. They want to see their reading levels increase as much as I do. To help keep the momentum going, though, with reading, our library needs to be refilled with high-interest titles and students' independent reading levels.

With these donations, you will help refill our classroom library with high-interest titles at students' independent reading levels.

You will give students the tools they need to help see their reading levels increase throughout the year, as well as the confidence to know that they can do so.
