My Students

Many of the students entering the Middle School Band program this fall are in need of band instruments and supplies for those instruments. Instruments will most likely be provided, but not the reeds for the woodwind instruments. Students will have to come up with their own reeds.

My students attend a school that has been identified as having 60% of the school population on free or reduced lunch.

My students are in grades 7 and 8, and are in their 3rd and 4th year of playing a band instrument. My students are supported by a budget of less than $2000.00 which is stretched between the band, orchestra, and choir needs.

My Project

Having these reeds will help us get started immediately after the summer break. Students still exploring which instrument they would like to play will have the opportunity to try that instrument with a reed of their own (no passing around germs!) There will be no delay in student learning. Everyone will be able to positively contribute to the group immediately. These reeds will help us fill out our lower band sounds.

I anticipate buying a lot for this band program this year out of my own pocket because I want students to be successful in their choices, regardless of school and family budgets.
