This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Have you ever shopped in the mall during the holiday season and heard a great group of band students performing holiday music? It lightens the heart and makes the experience more complete! Help my students experience the joy of the holiday by supporting our band reed drive.

Our school band program is comprised of gifted and talented students in an inner city school setting.

They come from apartment complexes across the area to attend a fine arts magnet, many walking up to two miles for the ability to attend a magnet fine arts school. However, the area is in a poverty stricken neighborhood with families struggling to survive. The students have above test score averages on national standardized tests, but have a low graduation rate. Band is one of the few classes that has been successful keeping the students in school.

My Project

The band program has had a winning season for the last two years. We have placed with a II division at band contest, 38 first place solos, and 7 first place duets. Recently we were featured on our city's news cast as the best magnet to attend in our inner city school district.

The band program is an important group in the lives of my students.

Our rehearsals together build strong community relationships and keep the children in a safe and secure environment.
