Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Every year, I work to find ways to help my students feel safe and secure to take academic risks in the classroom. I make every effort to make my classroom feel warm and welcoming but every year students come with new challenges and unique situations that make it harder for them to focus on learning. My high school students have a lot going on outside of school and for many of them, school is their safe haven. The items I chose will help me to further my goal of creating a classroom ambience where students feel seen, heard and cared for.

The live plants help to create a calm and inviting environment in the classroom.

They will liven up the space and help to clean the air we breathe. The acrylic paint, canvas boards, paint tray palettes and paint brushes will aid me in integrating art into my lessons and to provide students with a creative outlet. I plan to gift my students the scented pencils and inspirational Spanish stickers as rewards to celebrate their accomplishments. As a way to destress and decompress, I plan to give them the stress balls and slime balls, as well as the sheets from the Relaxing Mandalas Mindful Coloring Book to color. The Essential Oil Diffuser set and Himalayan salt lamp will help to enhance the students' mood, relieve tension and increase their focus. The Mindsight Guided Meditation Tool will encourage students to meditate and be present in the moment, helping them to center themselves and find their inner peace. Finally, snacks always have a way of turning a student's frown upside down. :) Teenagers are always hungry. I want to encourage them to eat healthy by providing healthful snacks to nourish their bodies.
