As a teacher in P.S. 35 for approximately 10 years, I have become very disheartened when we have a book fair, and a child does not have any money to buy a book of their own. As a teacher, about to become the school librarian,I would love each child to be able to choose and take home a book of their own. Many children feel ashamed that they cannot afford to purchase a book when we have our book fair. I am now in the process of planning our book fair, and I am currently looking for resources that will enable all of our children to purchase a book of their liking and ability. As educators, we all know how important it is for children to read. It is a cycle of sorts. The more that you read, the more enjoyable reading will become, and the more proficient a child will become in reading. What I hope for is that a donor will help the children of P.S. 35 each take home a book of their own, to help foster a love of reading.
