This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We want to be Earth's Ambassadors! My students want to learn and write about reducing waste, conserving natural resources and recycling. You can help support these fabulous authors-in-waiting with your donations.

I know that my students can do anything - with your help!

We never know who will walk into our door each year. It's part of the challenge, but it's also the piece of our "family" we look forward to the most. Our students often come to us with Specific Learning Disabilities in Reading and Language, Autism, ADHD, Oppositional Defiance Disorder and Processing Disorders. This wide array of special needs keeps us on our toes and looking for new ways to present information in a way that "works" for our kiddos! Because I only teach reading, writing and language arts I miss out on some of the fun I used to have with math, science and social studies. My teaching partner and I want our kids to see the bridge between science, reading and writing.

My Project

The books we're requesting will help us to build and immense amount of background knowledge for our students. Many of our kids live in neighborhoods with community dumpsters and their parents cannot afford to pay for a recycling service. This literature will serve as the foundation of our instruction on reducing waste, conserving natural resources and recycling. We've also included a few make-and-take books so the students will be able to recognize recycling in action! Our goal is to have each child publish their own book on recycling, natural resource conservation or protecting our planet. Most of our students are not able to purchase the materials we would need to make the books, or even the colored pencils. Just being able to let every child have their own set of colored pencils to work with would be amazing. The idea that every child would be a "published" author is even more exciting than the colored pencils! :)

We are putting this project together in an effort to be a part of Disney's Planet Challenge.

Our children are capable of doing anything we guide them through. We would love to make our books a part of Disney's Planet Challenge. Can you help us make sure that happens?
