My Students

This years' chemistry students are made up of teens from grades 9-12 and all different socioeconomic backgrounds. These students are taking a range of chemistry courses including on-level chemistry, honors chemistry, AP chemistry and IB chemistry. The 2016-2017 school year represents the largest enrollment of chemistry students my school has ever seen, and due to changing state requirements, the number of chemistry students will only increase in the coming years. These materials will be vitally important this and many years to come.

My Project

My high school has 5 classes of Chemistry being taught at the same time. Between these 5 classrooms we barely have one full class set of the needed balances. Currently, it will be impossible for our chemistry classes to say on pace if our labs have to be spaced out over the course of a week. Our department has been requesting these needed balances for the past several years, but we have never had the funding to afford them. Our honors, AP, and IB students need digital scales that measure to the thousandths place in order to gain real hands-on experience using significant figures in their calculations.
