My Students

Hello, my name is Maurice Williams, and I am the proud music specialist at De Chaumes Elementary School. I have been the music teacher here for the last two years. Before My students are in grades PreK- 5th grade.

The students of DCE in Houston ISD have grown tremendously over the last two years as students and musicians.

Students receive weekly music instruction in rhythm, pitch, beat, and other musical concepts. I work with ELL, Sped, and general education students. My students come in with an eagerness to sing and learn something new. Many have expressed wanting to learn how to play instruments. We have a small number of auxiliary percussion instruments. Each class that I see is about 20-30 students.

My Project

It is now time to apply these skills by learning to make music with the Recorder. With recorders, students can work on mastering their basic rhythm and beat-keeping skills. Students will get a head start on how to use their air to produce the proper tone. Students will also begin building their finger dexterity by working on proper hand techniques for the recorder. This skill will lead them to classes like band and orchestra in middle and high school. Please help us to continue to grow our music programs.
