This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students need a recorder method book. The Recorder Express Method book offers a compelling collection of recorder music for beginner recorder players that is sequential and interesting. Recorder stands will allow students to have an assigned location in the room to keep their recorder.

My students are ready to play recorder.

They love coming to music class and are always ready to try something new. This school is a high poverty school with a low socio-economic rate of approximately 96%. Additionally a majority of our students qualify as Limited English Proficient or LEP. As such, my music classroom is often the most successful part of their day simply because the language of music is universal.

My Project

The provision of a class set of recorder method books and recorder stands will be used in conjunction with another donorschoose.org project I have recently submitted in which I am requesting a grade level set of recorders. Through the use of these resources, an entire grade level of students will learn to play recorder at the same time. The recorder method book I have chosen won a parent's choice award in 2006 for it's exceptional quality. The stands I have requested will allow me to assign a specific and sanitary location for each of the recorders that my classroom will be housing. These stands will expedite the process of passing out and organizing materials and will help cut down on the spread of germs. The ability of every student to have their own copy of the music during class will increase their focus. Spending less time passing out recorders and the student's ability to trust that they are playing and caring for their own recorder will increase their overall time on task.

It is my goal to ensure that my students and the students I will teach in the future have the materials they need to study music in a way that is both varied in opportunity and comprehensive in scope.

By investing in a class set of recorder method books and proper recorder stands, we are ensuring that students will have appropriate music to read and that the recorders we invest in will be properly cared for for many years to come.
