My Students

A Kindergarten Classroom is a special place where young students gather and they can't wait to learn and explore! I have 50 energetic and curious Kindergarten students who enter my classroom each day and a great deal of our time is spent in learning how make sense of 26 letters so that we can begin to read. They are excited to learn more about the world they live in and their excitement is contagious!

For some of my students this is their very first experience in learning about letters, reading, and numbers and they need every possible advantage in acquiring these essential skills.

My Project

I want my kindergarten students to LOVE to read! I want them to experience the thrill of being transported to other places in the world, have wonderful adventures, and understand how people live and think across the world!

Reading can open up the world of possibilities never imagined before!

As I teach my students to read I want to create a learning atmosphere where they are comfortable sitting on the floor. This will lead to greater attention spans so that as a class we can focus on learning to read. I also want to create a reading nook with a classroom rug and provide real books in color that are on a Kindergarten/First Grade level.

Currently, my students have black and white copy paper books and we gather on a rug that is too small for our class. These materials can help my students love reading as grade level interesting books are put into their hands and so that they can have a soft spot to curl up in and read! My class will also benefit from a class set of dot markers to help to learn to read fun and an electric pencil sharpener will simplify daily tasks in the classroom!
