Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

At our shared school, which serves bright and energetic students from Pre-K to 12th grade, middle school students miss out on the vital role of recess due to limited space in our gymnasium and cafeteria. This results in an overreliance on their electronic devices for recreation further adding to the overall time they are sedentary during the school day. As a solution, we aim to transform our hallways into vibrant spaces for indoor sports, ensuring that middle-grade students have access to daily recess.

Recess is not just recreation but an important opportunity for students to recharge and reset during a strenuous workday.

According to the CDC, recess improves cognitive function, fosters social skills, enhances physical health, reduces stress, and stimulates creativity. This project will provide structured play opportunities for our students, introducing them to a variety of sports and games suitable for different skill levels. By utilizing our existing space effectively, we can offer inclusive activities that cater to all students.

By implementing this project, we will contribute to our students' overall well-being and academic success by providing a much-needed break during the school day using a variety of sports games sets. Additionally, since our students are accustomed to a personal devices-driven lunchtime, we would like to incentivize our gaming and social media-loving kiddos to engage in much-needed physical activities by sponsoring challenges and competitions. We hope to award trophies and prizes to our students and get them excited to participate by displaying these items prominently in a clear glass display case.

When you support us, you are transforming our hallways into havens for indoor sports, enriching the school experience for our middle school students and fostering their holistic development. Together, let's make recess a reality for every student in our school community.
