An aerie is an eagle's nest, and since we are the BMS eagles, this is the perfect name for our library. I want it to feel like home for our students, a place where they can come to read, learn, create, explore, and feel safe.
The BMS Aerie is a learning commons, with different spaces for different activities in addition to our book collections.
We have the The Loft, where students can create with textiles and paper, write poetry, and work on art projects. There's also The Lab, a space for science with engineering tools, and earth and life science materials and activities. Finally, there's The Way Back Machine, where kids can build with LEGO and blocks, create racetracks for miniature cars, and read favorite picture books.
This project focuses on The Loft, although I am seeking a wall for building with LEGO and some noise-cancelling headphones for our students who get overwhelmed by too much activity. Thanks so much for considering us!
