I am a first grade teacher at Southgate-Rippetoe Elementary in Moore, Oklahoma. I have a very active class who relies on lots of visuals and movement in order to learn. My class is a very colorful group that enjoys active learning.
My students come from lower class families.
Most of them depend on the school for their daily meals, and school is their main source of social interaction.
My school is definitely more impoverished than others in our district, and many of my students' homes were effected by the recent tornado and corresponding storms.
My Project
My students are very resourceful and enjoy using posters and visuals around the room to learn and jog their memories while working. With the materials, my students will once again be able to have an interactive calendar to work with each morning, a rug to designate student spots in whole group, an alphabet and hundreds chart to use as a visual, and clock labels in order to help my students learn to tell time more efficiently.
These materials will replace things that were lost in the recent tornado, as well as bright up our new classroom.
It will make the new classroom much more similar to our old room in order to make students more comfortable in their new environment. My students will be able to learn much more effectively and become much more engaged.
