Do you know what is it like to experience an EF-5 tornado and rise out of the rubble to see nothing? Neither did I until May 20th. While taking cover in a restroom, a tornado destroyed everything we knew in our school, and many of our students homes.
Our students live in Moore, OK and the majority are low-income.
They are the most resilient students who live a daily life most of us can't even imagine. Most of them lost everything when the tornado hit - their home, school, park, and much more. While their homes may take some time to return to normal, we can ensure that their daily school life returns as quickly as possible!
My Project
Our students are used to having many resources at their hands that allow for a variety of learning to take place. By funding our project, you will be helping them return to a small sense of normalcy and give them an even larger chance to be successful!
I am requesting a class set of dry erase boards, which we use in lieu of notebook paper on a daily basis.
I am also requesting a I-pad mini because we lost our class set or full sized I-pads. Students used these daily for academic reasons and for fun reward time. It is an invaluable classroom tool.
We do not have a school building to return to, but what we have learned through these last few weeks is that a school is not a building, but the people within.
While many of our students will not be returning, those that are deserve every resource available! We want a chance to show our students that while our lives may have changed dramatically, we will move on together!
More than half of students from low‑income households
