My Students

Within my school, almost 90% of students live in poverty. While the school has initiatives that provide students with free breakfast, lunch, snacks, and weekend food bags, many students are unable to come to school with supplies and spend time in classrooms that are not fully equipped with necessary materials.

My fourth graders are resilient individuals who face many challenges when they leave school; although there are a variety of trials in the world, our classroom is a place of solace and success.

Fourth grade is a time where students have deep, clear feelings about school and the world around them - and they let those feelings be known! They are learners who dive into rigorous academic content and require a comfortable, predictable learning environment.

Every student deserves a quality education, and my fourth graders are no exception. They are kind, capable learners who amaze me by what they accomplish daily and throughout the school year.

My students deserve a classroom environment equipped with adequate materials that help them receive a quality education.

My Project

With 2018 coming to a close, my students need some new supplies to help us reboot our room for the new year. We have been so busy summarizing important information on sticky notes, highlighting evidence within a passage to prove answers, and reading rich classroom literature that we have worn out some of our current materials. Lately, as I look at our classroom stock of highlighters and dry erase markers, I think, "Where did they all go?!"

The highlighters, dry erase markers, and sticky notes will help give a boost of engagement for classroom activities and the books will help keep our classroom culture supportive and kind.

Some big classroom hits with my students have been highlighters, dry erase markers, and sticky notes - if I pull any of these items out for an activity, my students sit up a little straighter in their chairs and I have more of their attention. As the school year progresses, my students need more encouragement to be kind to each other and show understanding and compassion. The titles that I have chosen will really engage my learners and offer some powerful lessons. The book of "energizers" will offer some great activities to boost engagement when we all need to get out of our seats and be active in the classroom. My students and I greatly appreciate your support!
