Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Second grade is an important time, where students are beginning to mature and grow more in their learning environment. My students will be taking on the task of learning and understanding the skills needed for college and career readiness, but will need additional resources to help them get there.

My new batch of second grade students will be part of an ICT, or Integrated Co-Teaching, class, which is part of the NYC public school system.

They live in a high poverty, multicultural community, and the majority of them live in shelters and come from low income families. Our class consists of two teachers - one general education teacher and one special education teacher, and a wonderful group of eager, new 2nd graders.

My Project

I've requested a classroom set of Scholastic News and Time for Kids magazine subscriptions to help increase reading stamina, to provide students reading materials that reaches out to their various real-world interests, and to engage students in text-based discussion groups.

Students often read and reread the same books from their classroom.

It would be wonderful for students to have new reading materials that interests them, and to have an additional resource to increase their stamina and love for reading.
