My Students

Maya Angelou once said: "Any book that helps a child form a habit of reading, to make reading one of his deep and continuing needs, is good for him.

I teach at a 4th -8th grade public school for the arts.

I have the pleasure teaching Language Arts and Social-Studies to ALL the 4th graders on campus. It is a very diverse group of about 100 students!

Our students come from all over the county - from every walk of life. The one thing that brings them together is their love of the arts. In my room, it starts with enriching literature, poetry and opportunities for the students to express themselves in their writing and hands on projects.

My Project

My students will be on their devices - looking at a screen for hours a day. I would LOVE to provide a hard copy of book for them all to read so they don't have to look at a screen for part of their day!

We will be reading The Tale of Despereaux together, as a class.

It is a wonderful book to start the year off. It teaches the students about friendship, bravery and courage. There is also the theme of HOPE throughout the book, which is something so important for the students and I to latch onto right now!
