My Students

Many of today's students are quite skilled in using technology for learning and reading. Some do not have actual books at home to read. Many students are not interested in books because they have not been exposed to the wonders of reading a chapter book.

I want to introduce my students to the wonders of reading books and open up their eyes to a whole new world.

Second grade is a transition year from reading mostly picture books to reading chapter books and using their imaginations to create characters, voices, and settings in their head as they read. Their eyes light up when they discover a good story and they can't wait to tell me all about it.

My Project

Having fun chapter books for my students to read and participate in novel studies with will enhance their learning and increase their enjoyment of reading. Reading should be made fun again. I want to introduce students to a variety of chapter books such as the Magic Tree House series, Cam Jansen mysteries, fantasy stories, as well as poetry.

Reading can open up a whole new world for students as they learn to use their imaginations.

Second grade is the perfect age for students to discover all that books have to offer. At this age, students are curious and open to all kinds of new ideas and classic reading.
