My Students

Our students are creative, inquisitive, and hardworking. Whether they are working independently, in partnerships, small groups, or with the entire class, our students love overcoming challenges together. They not only push themselves when it comes to tasks, but love helping their peers to push themselves as well.

To foster our class communities, we strive to create and maintain only the best learning environments for our students.

Our goal as their teachers is to teach our students skills to thrive in and out of the classrooms.

My Project

Our next unit of writing is Realistic Fiction. Students will be study authors and their realistic fiction stories like Jamaica's Find, Pete's Chair, Fireflies, and Jabari Jumps to mimic craft moves used by authors in their own writing. With these new realistic fiction books, students can study MORE mentor texts and see how different authors bring their stories and characters to life. Inspired by true events and people from their own lives, our second graders will create fictional characters and bring them to life by making them talk, think, move, and feel in their realistic fiction stories. In this unit, students will learn how to build tension in a story and make readers eager to turn to the next page to see what happens to their favorite character. Our teacher team needs materials like sharpies and large post-its to jot down key teaching points and strategies for the anchor charts that are hung up around the room. These anchor charts are perfect tools for our students to use as resources; we want our students to have an array of "next steps" and

What better way to showcase student's writing than in a hardcover book, just like their mentor authors?

In the final stage of the writing process, students will publish their edited stories in a hard cover book using the felt pens. Not only will students work through the writing process to write a realistic fiction story, but our students will also become illustrators! Students will also create illustrations using the colorful markers to compliment their writing.
