My Project

Since 1978 our school has hosted the Special Olympics Spring Games. In 2020, the annual event was cancelled a month before the big day. As we return to the track for the first time since 2019, students are getting excited. This year, over 350 Special Olympic athletes will participate in the amazing 2 day event, split up by grade level.

Athletes do not just participate in the games, but plan, prepare, and partner with others to create a meaningful experience for athletes across the county.

Students with and without intellectual disabilities have been working hard to organize paperwork, inventory materials, and creating trainings for volunteers.

The materials will be used to help the event go off without a hitch, rain or shine. A portable PA system and megaphones will help with communication across the track and baseball field. Stop watches, clipboards and pencils will help volunteers (students and adults) chart the competitions. Batteries and ponchos will be available just in case! Labels and Sharpies will keep materials organized.
