This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

What child is not motivated by hands-on, fun activities that meet their instructional needs? As a teacher of students with special needs, finding that spark that will capture their interest and love of learning is key. My role is to help my students become passionate about learning.

I provide special education services to some amazing students in grades K-3.

These students have a variety of needs including learning disabilities, speech and language impairments, autism, and severe cognitive impairments, to name a few. They face many challenges and require different modes of instruction in order for them to gain access to an education. Many are English Language Learners. Our school is located in a large urban city in CT. I have the rare opportunity of turning these students on to learning. It is a privilege to work with these special students who are near and dear to me.

My Project

These materials are perfect because they are structured, visual, and engaging. The learning packs focus on the alphabet, beginning sounds, rhyming, sorting, sequencing and opposites. These learning packs will reinforce what they are learning and bridge that gap so they can become readers! Each pack provides picture cards that will serve as a constant visual support of the instruction. The materials in this project will compliment the lessons of these critical reading skills. I hope to combine reading, writing, language, and fun with these classroom activities. My students deserve the best the world has to give them. My hope is to provide activities and lessons that will teach them the necessary skills to succeed in life! Thank you!

Students with special needs face challenges making it difficult to understand and relate to what they learn in school.

Many of my students are turned off by school because they haven't had much success. Hands-on activities, visuals, and thematic units build schema leading to confidence across the curriculum!
