"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." This quote by Dr. Seuss is one that I share with my students yearly. My students are hungry for books that are fun to read and help them to learn more about topics they love.
I have a class of wonderful students that come to school everyday eager to learn.
Unfortunately, they don't all come from a home environment with the resources to fulfill their hunger for knowledge. Our classroom environment seeks to be a haven for students to absorb all the knowledge they want to absorb.
Our school reopened this year as a "new" elementary school. Our staff is dedicated to building our school to foster all learners that walk through our doors. However, it is a challenge. Some teachers are now teaching unfamiliar grade levels and lack the foundational resources our students deserve. We will be a top performing school! With help from donors and support from our community and staff, we can obtain our goal of being a place students love to come to learn.
My Project
This year is my first year teaching 3rd grade. I've spent the last 8 years teaching Kindergarten and First grade. Therefore, my existing classroom library is not appropriate for 8-9 year olds. While they do enjoy rereading titles they have come to love growing up, they need a library that will expand their minds and allow them to read new books that represents their interests. This project will provide a variety of books that students will love to read! The variety of genres represented are pieces of the ever increasing standards that students are required to meet. If I can peak their interests AND teach the required standards, I know my students are going to surpass all expectations.
This project will provide a classroom library that will instill the love for reading in my 3rd grade class.
Kids that don't even KNOW they love reading will find topics they love in these books.
A painting my classroom illustrates my favorite Dr. Seuss quote, "Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not." Thank you for taking the time to read about our projects!
