My Students

First graders are nothing short of extraordinary. They come to school everyday with bountiful amounts of wonder, excitement, and determination to learn. Forty-eight percent of the students at our school are English Language Learners, and 90% of our students come from low-income families. I've learned that many of my little ones face a variety of adversities at home. However, I've also learned that 6 and 7 years old are not only some of the most resilient little humans I've encountered but the most loving, accepting, and not to mention, hilarious little humans on this planet.

My Project

How can you make reading fun? By bringing books to life through art! These books and art supplies will help us make reading exciting, interactive, and meaningful. The only thing first grade students love more than story time is art time! These books will continue to enhance the print-rich environment that we strive to create school wide. Every student book that is placed in my library is treated with love and care, and students are thankful for the opportunities to read. All of these books have been chosen with students in mind in order to keep them engage and continue to build on their foundational skills. First grade is such a critical age for all young readers. Help us make the biggest impact we can. Today a reader, tomorrow a leader!
