My students thrive in a learning environment that provides them exposure to current events around the world and the ability to gain new knowledge using technology. My students are curious! They love to ask questions (about everything!), seek answers (and not just one), and share their knowledge with others (everywhere, not just in school with classmates). They want to know about the world they live in - near and far. They want to know about college and career options, and yes, they are only in the 6th grade!
They need to know that others value their learning, so they can see how they can be contributing members of society.
My school is one of the top performing schools in our district, and my students need the opportunity to be challenged in their learning.
My Project
Chromebooks will help my students expand their knowledge and skills by allowing them to access information beyond the typical classroom resources. They realize the world in which they live is globally competitive and want to be prepared to succeed in life and contribute to society.
Students will be able to research and read more widely about topics which will enable them to have a deeper understanding about world issues in preparation for our Socratic Seminars.
An example seminar is based on the question "How do the actions of the leader of North Korea affect the world?" Another example is "To what extent was the United States justified in dropping the atomic bomb?"
Chromebooks will enable my students to enhance their writing portfolios by allowing them an avenue to publish their writing to a real-world audience. One upcoming opportunity they will have is to write to a survivor of 9/11.
This year, students would like to explore forensics and coding to challenge them beyond the regular curriculum.
