My Project

In sixth grade, we study the ancient civilizations and beginnings of permanent settlements. I love to make history come alive for my students.

This project will allow my students to simulate the famous Silk Road that opened trade routes between Anyang, China and Rome.

This activity is usually the highlight of the year for my classes. Groups of students are stationed at eight different trading posts with an essential commodity that they need to trade. These trade items include gems, spices, horses, camels, metals, vegetables, silk and gold. The goal is for silk to make its way to Rome, and for gold to make its way to China. Having these items makes the experience more credible. During our simulation, students get to experience what it was like to barter for these essential commodities.
