My Students

Each year we have more and more students who have families struggling to make it and who often have to move in with relatives after a job loss. Many also come from military families. The students at our school really want to make good choices and we have a staff that is working to help guide students. Our staff continually goes above and beyond to help their students. The school is based on the idea that we are all part of the same team, and we work towards helping all students. Almost 100% of certified staff work as mentors during their personal time to give students who need extra help the attention they need, whether it is an academic or a personal need. We are working hard to make sure our students are prepared for the future. We have added a MakerSpace and are now working to extend our STREAM clubs.

My Project

“ We are our stories. We compress years of experience, thought, and emotion into a few compact narratives that we convey to others and tell to ourselves.” Daniel Pink A Whole New Mind.

I want my students to be able to tell their story in a way that represents their true self and aspirations.

My students are excited as we use our new iPads to explore new ways of learning and expressing themselves. We have been using stop action for a couple years and the students love creating their own stop action movies.

We can now start using stop action to create their own unique story, that reflects their hopes and desires. Using animal figurines, realistic families that are multicultural, and other items, the students can generate stories that do more than just do random animation. There are also career figures to help them demonstrate future aspirations. The green boxes will be used to shoot the scenes.

It is important to be intentional with the use of media, and not just use it for the sake of using media. As a counselor, I want to enable my students to be able to share their story in a way that is meaningful to them. There are many ways we can incorporate these materials!

We also plan on using them for out MakerSpace room. Students have an opportunity to do stop action during this time. We also use during weekly STEM club. We have very limited materials at this time, so these sets will make it easier for students to use.

Every year we have a STEM/Career Day. One of the rotations is stop action. More sets will allow us to have a classroom at a time partner up and create their stop action movies. Thank you for helping us.
