My Project

The materials I have requested will be used to transform my storage closet, a room with 7' x 7' dimensions, into a sensory room for my students. These materials will transform a small space into a room that students will be able to rely on to decompress when they feel overwhelmed by their daily stressors and anxiety. A sensory room will provide a comfortable location for my students to de-escalate and the opportunity to reset so that they can function as they progress throughout their day.

As a result of Covid-19, a portion of my students developed social anxiety and still experience the effects of reintegration in the classroom, these materials would help to create a safe space to decompress and reset.

Our sensory room will be a multipurpose room as it will house our classroom library. Students who are finished with their work will be able to choose from a variety of literature to read. This will help elevate our test scores, expose them to new worlds and broaden their horizons.
