My Project

We’ve been working all year to learn our letters, the sounds that they make, and on blending those sounds into words. Now we are ready to put those skills to the test by practicing them in the pages of our favorite story books! Unfortunately, our classroom bookshelves were well-loved many years ago and now they seem to hold as many splinters as they do books.

I would love to turn our classroom library into a fresh, inviting space that my students will want to linger in as they carefully look for “the book” — the one that will ignite their confidence in their ability to read the words on the pages that go along with the stories they have been telling themselves by looking at the pictures.

Fresh bookshelves that fit the space and some comfy cushions to sit on will be the perfect complement to the cozy rug we were gifted at the beginning of the year!

For many of my students, school is the first (and sometimes only) place where they have consistent access to carefully curated and cared for reading materials. I want their first year in school to be filled with warm memories of exploring the ever-expanding world of stories page by page, word by word. Creating an environment that encourages them to slow down, sit down, and take another look is a good first step!
