My Project

Our school is located in Harlem, New York, and serves a predominately African American and Hispanic population. Although most of our students enter first grade reading far below grade level, they usually make great strides with their reading progress with a whole school literacy focus.

I teach at a Title 1-funded school in NYC where 100% of our children receive free breakfast and lunch.

Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn. Many of them want to be the first in their families to go to college.

The books obtained through this project will be used to enhance the students reading and comprehension skills. The books will be used for small group instructions and guided reading. The children will also be allowed to select their favorite books from the library to read during independent reading time.
