Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

When did you first fall in love with books? Many students don't have a special place at home to read and experience the adventures that books can offer. I want this year to be the year that my second grade students develop a love of books.

My scholars are sponges thirsting for information.

They come to school everyday excited for what the day will bring. They want to do their very best to be successful. Many of them are English language learners. We are part of a very large school community. There are over ten second grade classes in the building. We are a giant family.

My Project

Every classroom needs a reading corner. The more welcoming the area is, the more children will be excited to visit. During reading lessons, the entire class will meet on the carpet. When it's time for independent reading, small groups of children will be allowed to sit in the reading corner to read. I want for them to sit in a comfortable position on the carpet or snuggle down on an beanbag chair.

When I walk in to a classroom, I always look for the carpet.

It draws me in and makes me want to pick up a book. Providing a class carpet and chairs will make the classroom warm and cozy. It will provide a meeting area for my students to learn and share. It's a place to grow and shine.
