Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Most educators feel their classroom of students are the best and greatest. Although I can't argue with their opinions, I happen to think that I have the best and greatest students on this planet. There isn't a day that I don't look forward to seeing their faces and seeing them develop in knowledge and wisdom before my eyes. I may be their teacher, but they teach me so many lessons each day as well. Currently, I am educating a set of curious, friendly, and resilient sixth-grade students that are constantly excited about learning.

My students attend a Title I school in which a high percentage of the student body are first-generation immigrants.

Despite the obstacles they face on a daily basis, they are always eager to learn and never give up hope. As their teacher, I buy the majority of the materials they need to help them achieve their academic goals out of my own pocket because I want to provide them with the opportunities to learn and experience things they never imagined. I want to instill the joy that learning can bring regardless of the challenges within their own lives.

My Project

I am in desperate need of a new printer, ink and printing paper. I have resorted to emailing colleagues who will print for me and then I make my way to the office to put work in for copies. I also like to print class notes from my lesson as a resource for students to use to complete their independent tasks. I also use my personal printer to generate immediate differentiated activities during a lesson where I notice kids are struggling. This becomes my small group activities or extra support. At this time, students are copying from the board and doing practice sets with partners as needed. Modifications and adaptations to the classroom and curriculum, as well as individualized communication supports, are necessary for ensure student success but also requires additional resources, and supplies. With your help, I can provide what I need for my students without risking instructional time to copy.
