Help me give my students education games and materials to support their language growth, increase student participation and foster a safe emotional learning environment.
Our ELL shelter program helps over 100 students every year coming from other countries, adapt and thrive in a school setting. With limited resources available, it can be difficult to differentiate each and every lesson to fit the needs of all the students. These educational games are an amazing way for students to work together in cooperative groups (and of different languages and cultures) to learn the needed skills in a relaxed environment.
Many new students are not comfortable sharing with the class especially when they do not know the language.
Games help students to take that risk and have some fun in the meantime! I have requested multiple ELA based learning board games to use as stations. These games will help accelerate the learning of the newcomer students who would otherwise get lost in the shuffle. I have also requested mini hand held white boards so instead of being nervous to call out answers, they can write them down and I can check individually. These materials will be an amazing asset to our shelter program.
