Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a resilient group of TK and Kindergarteners who come to school eager to learn, regardless of what may be going on at home.

Many of my students arrive as early as 7:00 am and leave as late as 6:30 pm.

while parents are working in the nearby industrial area. The majority of my students are English Language Learners and all qualify for free breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Our school was founded on project-based learning and we encourage our scholars to ask questions and think critically in all subject areas.

My Project

Full day TK and K can be very cognitively demanding for the developing brains of our tiny humans. In order to make our instructional time more effective, we would love to provide more options for our students to play in safe and meaningful ways. Our Kinder yard was previously used for preschool and although we are fortunate to have space, we need to maximize the small odd-shaped space to facilitate play that simultaneously burns energy and provokes inquiry.

When play is fun and interesting children gain friendships that help them build confidence in and out of the classroom.

Since our students live in the heart of downtown where parks are not readily available, playtime at school is often their primary means of socialization with peers through play.
