My Students

My students explore science, make messes, and create in class. I am working to encourage scientific thinking and problem solving skills along with creativity and innovation.

I teach a middle school Maker Studio elective and K-6 science at a school in a country setting tucked in a beautiful valley.

Over 300 students will come through my lab every week. Although our school is small, we have the largest number of children in foster care in our county. My students love hands-on learning and discovery.

My Project

Makey Makey is an invention kit for EVERYONE! What can you create? From the Makey Makey site: Make a banana piano, play Mario on a play dough game pad, take a selfie of your cat every time she drinks water. How? First, load up a computer program or any webpage. Let's say you load up a piano. Then, instead of using the computer keyboard buttons to play the piano, you can hook the Makey Makey to something fun, like bananas, and the bananas become your piano keys. Hundreds of examples can be found at MakeyMakey.com I currently have one Makey Makey in class that students share. They LOVE it! It is difficult to share one kit so we are looking to add five more. Last year generous Donor's Choose donations got us 2 Vernier Lab Quest 2 kits. I want to get them in the hands of more students so I am requesting another kit. Thank you for your generosity!

I love nature and simple science with every day items. Makey Makey and Vernier take imaginations to a new level so kids can explore and create while learning.
