Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I work as an occupational therapist for students with disabilities in a public school that serves low income families. Many of my students struggle to access their educational environment since they have difficulty maintaining focus and attention. A sensory pathway will provide my students with a means for sensory regulation, thereby increasing their cognitive functioning and reducing sensory seeking behaviors. Whether it be hopping, jumping or animal walking on these floor decals, this series of movements will benefit my students immensely. Movement will improve their attention to task, overall classroom behaviors, and academic achievement. It will provide an area for my students to calm down and engage in much needed sensory breaks. As a therapist, I love creating interactive sensory enriching experiences for my students. I plan to collaborate with teachers in my school to make the sensory pathway available to students school wide to improve their self-regulation, balance, and motor skills. Help me make my students love to move and learn!
